I can't believe it's already September. This summer has just flown by...with earthquakes and hurricanes. I feel like I should cram all summer fun things into this final weekend.

all in all the move has been fairly easy. it's been nearly 8 weeks and we are pretty settled into our small 400 square foot apartment. i had to get a small storage space to store some stuff - winter coats, luggage, sewing machine, etc - and we bought a huge cabinet from ikea which has been a life saver. so life is slowly becoming more normal and we are adapting to a new routine. i've been working on a freelance project that doesn't require 40+ hours a week so i've had some time to chill and just relax. next week i start a more full-time job so we'll see how that goes.

so some of the things we are trying to get used to - laundry, haircuts, grocery shopping, etc. i desperately need to find a place to get my haircut. i went to an aveda salon and i think the person that cut my hair was a student. it was only $50 which here is basically like a free haircut so i guess i can't complain but my hair just doesn't look right.

and the laundry situation - we drop it off and pay by the pound. it's not bad but the clothes have zero smell when we get them back. i'm not a fan of fragranced detergents but i doubt these people are using the fancy free and clear detergents. we're wondering if perhaps you have to ask - pay extra - for detergent:)

grocery shopping - we have a couple of options for groceries which is nice. there is a whole foods a couple of blocks away, chelsea market is even closer and a pretty sub-par grocery store right up the street. the tricky part is lugging the stuff back if you want to get a lot. luckily i have my granny cart which was ironically my grandmother's. i can use this to lug groceries or stuff back and forth from the storage unit. we've also used fresh direct which is an online delivery service - pretty nice but not something we would do every week.

it still doesn't seem real but we are now officially living in nyc. after years of talking about living somewhere else and living in a big city we finally took the jump. about two months ago we decided that we were going to either buy a house in atl and settle down or move to another city. I told M to put himself out there and if something came back then it was fate leading us in our next direction - so that's where we are. it hasn't been easy but i guess change never is. one of the biggest adjustments is going from a 1,000 sf condo to a 400 sf. we move in tomorrow so we'll see how it feels.

i have a really bad habit of buying things and not wearing them. i bought these fabulous no. 6 boots and even though i love them i haven't worn them nearly as much as i should. i think i want to keep them looking pristine but that's not what they are for is it? so im going to challenge myself to wear them all weekend.

I really really want these shoes but would prefer to pay $338 w/ free shipping instead of $360 plus $15 for shipping. The problem is I really like the whiskey color instead of black but I can only find the whiskey color at Creatures of Comfort. Has anyone seen these in whiskey anywhere else? I thought Bird would have them but it doesn't look like they are planning to carry them.

The black isn't so bad I have enough black shoes already. I know - it's a hard life if this is all I have to think about.

wow - i was so happy to see this post over at 3191 miles apart. i thought i was the only one with an addiction to giving things away. i think they need to make a tv show like hoarders for those of us with this affliction. some days i just get this urge to get rid of like 75% of the clothes in my closet. i'm a big believer that you should get rid of anything that doesn't bring you at least a little joy. right now my focus has moved from my clothes to furniture. yep - my entire living room is currently on craigslist. but i'd rather be sitting on the floor than holding on to something that i don't truly love. and nature loves a vacuum so letting go of things just makes room for new ones.

I'm kicking myself that M had this exact sofa and we got rid of it when we consolidated our furniture. Geez...

We went to this store yesterday. Fantastic stuff but wow the prices. If only I had the money and a fantastic bungalow to kit out with everything from this store.

I'm actually leaning towards the Holden sofa from R&B again. It was my first choice and then I went to the Eugene and now I'm back to the Holden. I'm just not feeling the boucle fabric on the Eugene - seems a little dated. I guess I could do a custom fabric but all that seems too complicated. My sad little slip cover couch from C&B is looking better and better. Maybe it has a little bit of life left in it.

i was super excited to see the new Vena Cava collection on gap.com. i ordered this dress in a size 2 and a 4 because i'm usually right in between. let's hope the fit is as good as it looks.

** update ** i received the dress in both a size 2 and a 4. pretty disappointed. first of all the dress runs very small. a size 4 at the gap is typically a tad too big for me. the size 4 in this dress was very snug and the fabric had no give making it very stiff. overall the concept was good but, as the case with most cheap clothing, the execution was disappointing.

organic skin care

i'm a big fan of Suki skin care products. i use the exfoliate foaming cleanser 2-3 week and recently started using the pure facial moisture - balancing product. i was a little wary of putting oil directly on my face but i'm now realizing that it isn't any different than using lotion and this product is great because there are no chemical ingredients.

So I started a sewing class with my friend alex. My mom gave me this fantastic sewing machine years ago and I've never really done anything with it. So far I've made three pyramid shaped little bags and two cosmetic bags. I'm super excited to start a skirt next week.
